French and Spanish interpreter
Timothy provides in-person and remote simultaneous interpreting. His languages are English (A), French (B), Spanish (B) and Catalan (B).
Specializing in sport and international development, I offer consecutive and simultaneous interpreting services, including remote simultaneous interpreting. I interpret from Catalan, Spanish and French to English and from English to French, Spanish and Catalan. My clients include international organizations such as the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the Committee of Insurance, Securities and Non-Banking Financial Authorities Secretariat.
Simultaneous interpreters listen to event speakers through headphones and simultaneously translate the message into another language. We normally work in pairs, on site, from a soundproof booth at the back of the room.
Consecutive interpreting is suitable for short meetings in which only two languages are used. It has the advantage of not requiring specialist equipment, but it is not recommended for events lasting more than a few hours, since the proceedings take a lot more time. A speech can take twice as long, because everything has to be said in two languages. If three or more languages are being used in a meeting, consecutive interpreting is not feasible.
Remote simultaneous interpreting took off when national and international travel was restricted between 2020 and 2022. The main advantages are that booths are not required and the interpreters do not have to travel. It also makes it easier to work with specialists in a particular field, since you can assemble team members from anywhere in the world.
The disadvantage is that it increases the likelihood of technical issues, prevents the interpreter from feeding from visual cues in the room and makes it difficult for interpreting team members to help each other out.
My specialist fields are sport, higher education and international development. If you need remote simultaneous interpreting in one of these fields, I'd love to be on your team. Send me an e-mail.
With so many factors to consider, you may be unsure which interpreting mode to use. Send me an e-mail to schedule a call and we can discuss which interpreting mode is most suitable for your event and whether I would be a good fit.
Although I can interpret for a range of fields by preparing for meetings in advance, I specialize in sport, macroeconomics and international development, and higher education.
